So you should probably stick to using HE on destroyers when fighting them in other destroyers. Please mark leaks with spoiler tags, like this: Smolensk is balanced!. ![]() But on other destroyers, with the armor angles constantly changing, AP is too unreliable, especially when you're in what amounts to a DPM fight with a similar opponent (unless that opponent is a Khab, in which case you're in a DPM fight with a cruiser with no citadel and more health - and more guns - than you). It can also work pretty well on carriers if you have a good angle on them. Destroyer AP can be useful against thinly-armored cruisers giving you their sides, or against the (usually) thin casemate armor of battleships (if it's at a relatively flat angle). Remember it only takes 9mm of armor to autobounce 127mm AP shells at high angles, and only a little more than that to reliably bounce them at lesser angles. Think about how most destroyer fights go - turning and changing speed constantly, trying to avoid torpedo launches, with rudder shift times usually in the sub-4 second range. In destroyer on destroyer combat, HE is far more reliable than AP. Should use HE or AP rounds against the other DD? What do you think works best in DD V DD combat. Regardless of the type of DD that fighting each other. ![]()
